SO I said I'd upload the photo of Ms. Dale and that dead boyfriend of hers

This photo is on her bulletin board, in her guidance counselor's office. It was taken abut three years prior to the comic on a skii trip.


So I don't think I'll ever mention something specific about these two in the comic besides the fact that he died and that Ms. Dale really loved him. I figured I'd write a bit about them here if you're interested to know more:

Daniel was the first person Daphne Dale ever really loved. She was always a closed off person and even though men chased her, she wasn't really bothered to try for relationships. The ones she had were short lasting and usually one sided, with her side being the side that didn't really feel anything boldly.
Daniel was different, Daphne never met someone so intriguingly cheerful before. 
They met when he almost ran her over with his car one rainy night. He decided to buy her dinner in exchange, and things rolled from there.
He reminded her of a child so many times, it balanced her extremely mature personality. He was the first person who made her laugh, not fake giggle, actually LAUGH. 
He was also the first person that she actually missed when he wasn't there. Daphne remembered past boyfriends telling her they miss her, but she never really understood their feelings until then.
They moved in together, and it was the happiest four years of both of their lives. She was secretly waiting for a ring and he was eagerly on the look for one.
But one night after Daphne waited for him with an already made dinner, he just never came back home. She got a call from the police that a car crashed in to him when he was waiting on a red light. The death was instantaneous. 
She never revived from it, not currently either. She was always looking for signs of him, everywhere she went. She couldn't believe he was really gone, that she would never feel him sleeping next to her again or make her laugh again or be so childishly adorable again. It was impossibly difficult to just continue to live without him.

After about three years, the pain was still there and fresh. Her heart skipped a beat when the new teacher at the school arrived. She'd never seen someone look so much like Daniel before.
She thought she might have been losing it and just imagining, but after a while she just had to know the guy. Mr. Lancaster was not childish like Daniel or made her laugh like Daniel. He didn't smile like him either.
But Daphne's still looking for pieces of Daniel in him. Maybe she hopes that one day he will just magically transform into him. She doesn't even know herself.
